New Gauge Set

Hello All.

I need some help. I recently purchased an 87 Camaro LT, and I would like to replace the gauges. My current setup is as follows: 85 MPH Speedo, No Tach (instead where the Tach is located I have the huge Gas Gauge), and the three small gauges in between those two are only warning lights (Battery, Temp, Oil).

I would like to replace the huge gas gauge with the factory Tach and I would like to get actual gauges to replace the warning lights. It is to my knowledge that the oil pressure gauge is inside the tachometer, and where the oil pressure warning light is currently in my car is replaced by a smaller gas gauge. I would like that setup, and while not neccesarry, the 140 MPH Speedo would be a nice finisher.

My question is this: Is this do-able by myself, or do I have to take it somewhere and get them put in. How does the tach signal work, is it just a simple wire I can hook onto the engine, or is computerized in which I need to buy extra components? And would it be a hassle to replace the three small warning lights with actual gauges, or would it just be a few wires?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will have to get the whole white plastic guage/light/circuit board holder for guages also because it is different than the one with dummy lights...

Also, from what I have heard, the guage cluster will just plug right in, and everything will work...no modification to wiring necessary...

That's good to hear.

Anyone else have any opinions/comments/tips? Can anyone point me to any type of in depth instructions on how to accomplish this? Once again, thanks in advance for any help.
