technically, they shouldn't pass you... but its amazing what you can get away with if they don't care or if you BS with them. Somehow my jeep passed emissions with a muffler that ended at the y-pipe. It was a baha'in mobile, Big trail tires... I think I only put the hardtop on it once and I drove it for a year =D. It was all about takin it through the fields after it snowed with no top on... we were all in snowsuits haha. Anyway, if you're worried about it, or if its something that will throw off your groove, find a way to fix your problem before you have one. I'll switch ya hatches =D lol. I've got the 3rd brake light on top of the hatch window.

I don' tthink they will pass you. They usually have info on what your car should and shouldnt have acccording to the year. But then again, sometimes they forget things.

Half the time the people working at those things don't know what your car came with and are to lazy to look it up. I wouldn't worry about it.

That's true. If they do catch you for it, just put a temporary third brake light on to pass inspection and then take it back off afterwards.

As long as its not there, what do the inspectors know. The concern is if it working not that you don't have one.
