BIG PROB with underhood rust
Their is some rust underneath the hood of my 82 that is pretty bad. It caused one small hole and you are able to bend some of the metal with your finger. I put por 15 on it the other night, and showed it to a body shop owner today.
He said he doesn't know how hard it is to repair the entire underside of the hood. He was wondering if a new hood would be a better choice. New hoods from hawks are 700, so forget that idea. I would like to see the condition of the hood before I buy it, so I couldn't order it from hawks or something like that.
Anyone know how hard it is to repair rust on the underside of a Formula hood or an 82-84 ta hood?

I am not positive, but Hawk's hoods are fiberglass, which explains the 700 price.
Try find an OEM sheet metal hood and it will probably be cheaper.
Also check out local pull aparts, hoods are usually in pretty goods shape.
I wouldnt advise repairing it, because it will probably turn out to be expensive to repair, and even then it will still probably cause major issues later on.

Yeah, $700 is a bit steep. You can get some cool aftermarket hoods for about $450. Or, the junkyard should get you a hood for about $50 like Air_Adam said. Heck, while you're at it, get a Z-28 hood. If the junkyard doesn;t yield anything, try Ebay.
