Hatch Will Not Latch??

My car has a power hatch and the other day it was acting funny. When I popped it open before I could go around to lift it, the motor would bring it back down. I finally got it open and I realized that my rear compartment light was stuck on. So I lift up on the hatch and its not even latched. How can I fix this?? I think the motor retracted but hasnt come back up because theres nothing in it. Any ideas???

You also need new hatch struts if you have to lift the hatch by hand.

I suspect the hatch pull-down unit has cycled part way down without the latch catching on the hatch hook. To re-set the unit, press and hold down the small black switch next to the latch until the unit has cycled down fully. Then release and it will cycle back up fully. If the switch doesn't cause the unit to lower or acts sporadically it needs to be replaced. Bad news is GM has recently discontinued the striker-sensing switch. Without new ones available OEM, the best source would be a good used one.

The picture is of teh entire striker-sensing switch which includes the wiring for the pull-down unit. The actual switch portion is shown in the loser right-hand side of the picture. The black paddle you see sticking down is the switch that needs to be pressed. It is attached just in front of the latch with a single hex-head screw. There are 3 wires coming out of the switch, black, orange and white.
