faded carpet...
My interior carpet is still in good condition but is sun faded from it's original black. I was wondering if there was a way to color it or dye it back to black instead of replacing it all.. Just trying to save some money so I can paint it soon. Thanks

Funny as it is, I keep hearing I should post my results of the $5 carpet dye fix. I had dingy grey carpet and 5 cans of cheap black spray paint, fixedi t all up. I tested hwo it work on a sample first and its a dream. My car look much better.

"I did a sample test and it looks like cheap black spray paint is the perferct cheap carpet die. I soaked a small piece down. Let it dry 4-5 mins and then took a 100 grit foam sanding bloack to it for a min or 2 [to simulate a few year of feet rubs] and the color does not come off. The carpet is a plastic fiber and it must soak to the core well. "

Gumby, so the spray paint worked huh... I had thought of that but I figured it would make the carpet hard and crunchy. How did you get it to penetrate the carpet and also so it didn't stick together. I think I'm gonna try it, but just wondering if you have any tips.. Thanks

Well having the carpet out helped. I used a large wheel/rim scruber brush on the carpet to keep the fibers lose and to get each side of the nap. [ carpet fibers have 4 sides] I did spray it close and made sure it pentrated well. Just some cheap 99 cent walmart gloss balck paint.
Much cheaper than new carpet.
The car did stink for a week or so like paint. A few hot days in the sun helped to dry out the fumes.
