I have no idea if the recall is still active or not.

But you do want to have the seat belts fixed. If the seatbelts malfunction, you end up stuck in the seat. This happened to my passenger back in the 90s. It took awhile to get him loose. I was starting to think I'd have to cut the seatbelt to get him out.

I don't know if it's still good or not. But ether way get them replaced. Mine gave out a year ago and I still can't walk today! So it's better safe than sorry.

I know the recall is active for the Camaros. I just can't find out if it applies to Firebirds as well.

My passenger side seatbelt doesn't work. So I would really like to get them replaced.

The red push button was made from poor quality plastic and fails after long exposure to sunlight. They only replace that item and if Vin reecords indicate its been done by a previous owner, forget about it.

Thats a good point, can you check that sort of stuff? I have the recall letter, but no documentation on whether new belts were installed.

My seatbelts are very pink looking, but not cracked or anything. So far they work, but I thought they were supposed to be a bit more red.

Just check with the dealer and they will run the Vin for the recall.

i think it depends on where you take the car. some places will replace them no problem, while others may laugh in your face for trying to get a 15-20 year old recall done.

It will be another year or so. As for the seatbelts I dont trust the factory ones any more, it's going to be 5 point harness for me!

nope, saftey recalls are for the life of the vehical, but you may have to wait on the car, it may take a while to get parts, if they are even still avalible, the parts supply may be exhausted

My drivers side wouldnt latch sometimes when i first bought the car there was a little spring that fell out of place. I opened it up and glued the spring to where it came from and havent had a problem with it since but i may run down to the pontiac dealership and see about having that looked out. Hell iff i can get it replaced for free i'm all for it. Where did you go to find a list of the recalls. NTSB or whatever now i'm curious. I may have the guy on 3rdgen.org run the vin through carfax to see what the report comes out if its ever been done before

The belts are not replaced, just the red push button. So don't think you can get new belts. Also if the original owner did not act on the recall its still active, if your Vin indicates the work was not done. Now if it was done all you have is the same seat belts as before you knew about any Recall on your 12 + year old car. I had the work done the same year as the Recall and they only replaced the passenger side button.

I took it to a dealership when I was up in Seattle. They told me to "pack sand" because they would not honor the request to fix the seatbelts. They don't replace them. They just add a metal clip in the front on the belt lip entry. If you see some in the bone yards, this was the repair.

What years does this apply to? Don't they only replace them if the button has turned pink which means that they are liable to break?

Its been so long since that recall, your best bet would be to check with a GM dealer and get the info first hand and not hearsay from these Posts.

There is 109 pages of data about the recall. It further states that the "repairs will be made from this date forward regardless of the age of the vehicle".

Well, maybe I should try again.

Go to nhtsa.dot.gov. Any safety recall on your vehicle must be done by any original dealership even if you have a 1901 model t.

It's only the push button, spring and a metal clip for each belt. The kit GM #14097930 and contains everything needed for 4 seatbelts. Still avalible from GM and cost only $6 or so from the dealership. Takes you about 10 min to do all 4 seat belts. I replaced mine last year as they where pink and the new ones are red and looks great.

Why pay for those items, if the car did not have the recall work done before its FREE.
