Fixing Front Seat Belts..... Did a Search

In my 86 Camaro the front seat belts don't work properly. Whenever I give the shoulder strap a quick pull or lean forward suddenly, it doesn't stop me. It just lets me lean forward w/out any resistance. Is there any way I can fix this or just a certain part I need to buy? I want these to be safe and work properly so if I need to buy new ones I will. I did a search and it seems like others have this problem, but I didn't find any fixes for it.

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
If the car is sitting level, that's normal. There is a counterweight inside the housing that will 'lock' the mechanism during braking or if driving or parked on an incline.

Ummm.... I don't know. I still think something is wrong b/c if I give the seatbelt a quick pull in any other car it stops the shoulder strap from going any further (kinda like if you got in a wreck). My camaro doesn't stop the belt when I do this. Thanks for the help though.

Pete is right. You can test it by removing the bottom section of the seatbelt and tilting it. If it lets you retract the belt, it's broken. If not, it's all good
