painting engine bay.....steering box ?'s
i'm painting the engine bay of the iroc. i have everything stripped out except the steering box and linkage. i was just wondering what i'd be getting myself into if i took that stuff out. is there anything special i should do? also, on the steering box there are 2 (i think) big bolts that hold it to the frame rail;how much do those have to be torqued back down if i do take the box off?

There are actually three bolts, one is partially hidden behind the brace. 11/16 socket and my Haynes says 80 ft-lbs.
Seperate the center link from the pitmam arm, remove the bolt through the steering shaft under the brake booster (what brake booster?) and unhook the lines going to the cooler, or leave them attached and remove the entire thing.

Pete pretty much hit it dead on. When I redid my car I removed the steering box for paint. It was no problem at all to remove or install.
Good luck.
Good luck.
