Power to manual windows?

Well, thats just what I want to do...I have a 92 Z with power everything and I just don't care for it. I like simplicity in things like windows and locks and steering. Power brakes and HORSEpower are cool though

Has anyone ever done it? What all do you think I would need? I realize most people would scoff at the idea of going from power windows to manual, but hey, I just like cranking down my windows better than pushing a button...

I think all I would need is to locate the proper window regulators and cranks. I will also have to pop a hole in the door panels but that shouldn't pose as problem.

Whatever anyone thinks, let me know...

BTW, if anyone knows where I can locate the parts, let me know as well.

Thanks...

Well, all you really need are some new door panels...or cut holes in the ones you got for the window cranks, and a donor car for the window mechanisms. It;s going to be a tough job cause you'll have to pop the rivets out for the window motors and finagle all the power stuff out and weasel the manual stuff back in. We did a swap similar to this in an S-10 we chopped a few months back. The only thing that saved my @$$ was my wife helped us and she has small hands so she was able to reach in and get some of the stuff we couldn;t get. There's not alot of room to work inside those door frames.
You should be able to get the mechanisms fairly cheap from a salvage yard. I would suggest getting some good lithium grease as well and really making sure all the manual parts you re-install are completely cleaned and lubed.

Thanks for the info. Do you think a dealer would be able to get me the window mechanism new? If I go ahead and do this, I would rather send the money and get it all new...That's just the way I am. I may hit the bone yard though, if I can find as decent Camaro, most of the ones here are just pathetic...

Yeah, the dealership may be able too, but I think it would be a big waste of money. You can easily get a good set from a car. Just make sure there isn;t any rust on the outside of the car and you should be good to go. Bring your own tools and take them out yourself. You'll save money and you'll know how they are supposed to be installed.
