Need Help with an Auto Shift Plate
I have been looking for a shift plate for my 82 Firebird. They changed the plate style in 83 when the transmission was changed to a 4 speed with overdrive (Correct me if I am wrong). I have been searching the net for a plate but can't see anything for an 82. I don't think they are being made anymore, I see that yearone stock a 83 to 87 style. Does anyone know will that fit OK on the 82 Console?. I know the letters won't match up with my 82 plate but I can work around that. I found another place that stocks an 88-89 plate. It looks the same as the 83-87. What's the difference?. Anyone out there an expert on Shift Plates?.
Any help appreciated,

use p/n 10027460
82-4 should be (generally) the same (looked similar to the camaro console). 85-up changed to the vinyl padded style (radio pod seperate from the console).

Thanks for getting back to me. It would be great if an 83-84 plate will fit an 82 console. I suppose it's not possible to buy a new plate for an 82 (200C transmission). I know this is a long shot but does anyone know where I could try?.
Thanks

I've got my old plate sitting around somewhere but a very small chunk of the top corner on the driver's side has been broken off. There's also a small blemish on the clear plastic if I remember right. I've made a new plate out of aluminum since I changed over to a Hurst shifter.

My plate has got cracks around all the screw holes and some previous owner drilled a hole in it near the top right hand corner. Why this was done is a mistery to me. Since I am restoring the car I decided I may as well try and get a good or new shift plate. I didn't realise they are so hard to find.

Trim Plate Information
Hi,
I have included some information for you in your search, assuming that you have not found what you were looking for as of yet.
Your trim plate number is: 1002 7460 (GM). That is for Firebird model years 1982-1984.
A good reference source to check for part numbers (besides your local GM parts department) is:
http://www.deadbird.org/pnfire/index.htm
They also include a search box to check the availbility of part numbers you input.
The following is a merchant on eBay that has a nice selection of parts and will look for specific parts if you email him.

Thanks Steve, I appreicate you posting this information for me. Having part numbers is a real help. I have bought a steering wheel from perryman on ebay a few weeks ago and it was in first class condition. I didn't know that they also source parts I will drop them a mail on Monday and see what they can do for me.
Thanks again
