I got one for my car that I pulled off an 83 Z in the junkyard. Fiberglass work isn't all that hard, it's just messy and time consuming. For bodywork, I'd recommend using a fiberglass gel. BONDO makes some of it, and it has about the same consistancy as regular filler, but has almost the same strength as regular fiberglass. To repair the crack, just use the regular methods of body repair.

Good luck,
Matt

EDIT: if the chunk missing is on the edge of the hood, you might want to find a way to reinforce the repair with metal strips, so that if you slam the hood the repair doesn't come off.

yep, same hood, i wish the little ram air looming thingeys were real! i was thinking of a way to make them work, but didn't know if it was worth it. any ideas? its not that big of a deal to me to have true ram air, just would be a nice extra. the crack is right on the leadinbg edge in the front, in between the headlight and the middle of the hood. so about a 1/4 of the way in from the middle to the right, if that made any coherent sence at all. lol

They were functional on the '82 Z28 'glass hoods... If you want a functional one, go pick up an '82 hood.

Its really not that hard to fix the one you have though.

i knew it was only at wot, but there had to be some way to keep it closed or at least have a REALLLLLY good air slowing filter to compleetly get rid of the point of having the thing in the first place. is there any people here with the functioning hood to let us in on the secreet?

I don't have the functional hood, but I do have the regular glass hood from 82. The functional hoods only came on the CFI cars, if I am not mistaken, not the LG4 carbed cars. If you can dig up some info on the CrossFire setup, it may shed some light on how the hoods worked.
