4th gen mirror mod??

I was just curious if anyone has tried to swap 4th gen side view mirrors onto a 3rd gen. I thought I had seen it on here before but I can't seem to find it.Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, Redraif and I did that swap on her car...it was pretty easy. There are instructions on her site,
http://www.cardomain.com/id/redraif

The worst part is you have to repaint the doors, since the orginal mirror holes have to be welded up.

thanks for the help guys. I might have to try just for the hell of it.Fun part is that I want to use power mirrors.
I think I can figure a way to conceal the wires though.

Her mirrors are power too, but we haven't hooked up the power function yet. The door panels she is switching to soon were from a power window car, so theres no big hole in them for the remote thing. When we switch the panels, we're going to wire up the mirrors and make a panel to cover the nuts and wiring, either out of fiberglass or carbon fiber. Shouldn't be too hard.

doesn't her car have the molded door panels in it currently? I'd like to find a set of those for my camaro but i have yet to see any at all in a junkyard do you know if they were model specific or year specific or any other reason they might be hard to find?

Yeah, her car has the molded door panels (it came with them originally). From what I understand, they were available in any 87 Firebird, and after 87 only in GTAs and Trans Ams. My 87 Trans Am also has the molded door panels (black interior vs her original gray). Shes staying with the molded type panels, but switching to black ones with red inserts. Tan and black seem to be the most common, followed by gray and maroon (have only seen those once). If you get a set, be sure you get the metal armrest supports (the shiny metal things) rivited to the doors; the ones for standard door panels are different. Personally, I think this design is the best looking of all the third gen door panels, but they can be difficult to find. We've never found any in a salvage yard; the set Shannon has she bought off Ebay.
