Power Seats

I have a question for you guys/gals. Do our cars come with the proper wiring for power seats? I am going to go junk yard hoppin this weekend and I was just wondering if our cars already had the wiring for power seats. If they didn't I wasn't going to buy power seats if I could find them. If not how hard would it be to wire in the power seats? I have an 1984 Z28 with most of the options except for power seats and leather Just in case that helps answer any other questions. Check out my Cardomain site for pics of my car.

I've heard some cars come wired for power seats, but if yours didn't its no big deal. If its your basic power seat you want to install, all you have to do is ground one wire, and run the other to a +12v source. In my Sport Coupe I had the entire interior out, so I used a grounding point under the console, and ran a wire to the batt outlet in the fuse box.

Thanks. Doesn't sound too hard. I am not sure if mine is prewired or not. How can I tell if it was?

Remove your stock seats and check under the carpeting. If the harness is in place, you'll find it without too much difficulty.

Just as easy to wire in without the harness. I just did the same to my 84 Z28. Ground the seats under one of the seat tracks and run a hot wire that is fused and away you go. 4th gen seats are definitely the way to go. Enjoy.

Take the 3rds out and chuck them away and install those 4ths. They are fantastic and leather is really nice. Just did it and they are great. Also, they have more back rest settings for the front seats. The rear also fit, so buy the lot. Great shopping.

Yup, 4th gen is the way to go. I have power 4th gen seats in my 86 Camaro. Was easy to wire up, just ran a +12 volts to battery and used the track bolt as a ground.
