I'm sure there could be away to attch insulation if you wanted to...as far as primer goes....no, it's not primered. There is a layer of gel coat applied to the hood, which has to be sanded down, then primered. Gel coat will withstand weather conditions, it's a pretty durable coating.

It is a functional grill, it lets air into your engine bay.....BUT there is no air box for actual "ram air".

does it work fine with the stock hood struts or do you run the risk of cracking the hood?? Meaning are the struts too stiff for the hood??

I have the ASCD Big Block hood and it bolts on with the stock struts and shuts fine. It is a little hard to close but not hard enough to crack the hood.

if you're really worried about it, go to the auto parts store and get struts for an 82-84 z28 with a fiberglass hood.

I just bought the ascd ram air hood about a month ago. I've already started filling in the gap that runs along the enitre parameter of the underside where the bottom and top halves meet. I've also enlarged the underside air inlet and layed down some fiberglass mat to create a wall so that air will not go into the cavity between the two halves. I can post pictures if people want to see how I'm approaching it all. By the time I'm done I should have a hood that actually looks MUCH better than stock and actually has ram air (yes I'm designing a ram air box)

Excuse my odd question, but why would you want to attach insulation to the underside of the hood?

Something I've always wondered - if air can go in, then what about water? Hydro-lock is bad no?

you would have to have some serious problems for the engine heat to damage the paint on your hood.

i've been running my car without insulation since it was painted candy.....sill winning shows. don't worry about it, now if you want it for looks that's a different story although mirrored plexi looks better.

thought that was the whole reason cars came with insulation under the hoods. Other than to quiet engine noise I thought it also served to keep too much heat from affecting the paint. Anyways thanks for the info
