poor mans Weatherstripping

ok I got a 84 camaro with T-tops it leaks of corse but I don't have cash money to buy the right stuff so Im gana use silicone calk (black) I could use polyurithain and it would be more permanit but silicone is easyer to take off. now to my question should I just put it on in a cresent moon like shape over the old weatherstripping of should I put wax paper over the windows and hatches and put them on or role them up. ill use a razor blade to cut off the extra. im thinking since the stuff is squishy to do the moon style and it will be a tighter seal. hope you understand
