aftermarket high rise spoiler install

hey guys, just got a high rise spoiler for my 91 camaro off ebay, I just set it on the camaro last night, and the two inner pillars done even hit the hatch surface, the two side ones come in contact first. does anyone have or could take some pictures of theire spoiler so I can line it up correctly. and maybe this spoiler is how correct, and the hatches that DID have the high rise, had two small raised platforms that contoured to the spoiler? but I'll takes some pix and we can see what I should do, what could I use? without looking at it again I'd say I have 3/4's of an inch of play? piece of wood to go under it? give me some ideas

cheers

Blake

There is only one style decklid made for all years/makes of these cars. Spoiler holes were the only difference. The wing you have sounds like it's just warped.
Here is the one that was on my 'bird... it was an A&A wing but, it's probably 99% accurately made as compared to an OEM one... the wing should sit perfectly flat all the way across..

you can see that gap thats left there, its about a half inch, should I maybe sand down the side pillars that are hitting the car and then fibeglass the bottom of them, I work with fiberglass a little bit and my dad works at a fiberglass drag boat place so I coudl get a really good job done.

cheers

looks a lot how mine did when i got it...when i tightend mine down most of that gap goes away...probably not the best thing to do though as its puttin a lot of pressure on it. is going to give me a few problems as well im sure, did you get that off ebay as well

yes I did, maybe we should think about making a rubber spacer made of truck bed lining? or just adding some fiberglass wouldnt hurt, depending how comfortable you are with it

cheers

That pic is really wierd. Either your car has a wide body kit..... or, that wing is too short. eek. Or is the bird wider in rear?

Pills is right. Birds are roughly 1" wider on each side as compared to camaro's. Mine was not the same as either of you have however. It fit just as OEM on a camaro because it was actually made with some craftsmanship :P (j/k). The A&A wings were near duplicates of OEM wings and quite superb in quality. My A&A wing seemed just as heavy if not, slightly heavier then the 4thgen I now have.
As far as your problem, Blake (and Pills too), I would trace the center pillar bottom onto a piece of plywood (of the near correct size for the gap) and undercut it slightly, drill a larger hole than you need for the bolt, and glass it to the wing. Then you need x" longer bolts for the wing.
That's just my opinion though...

My high rise spoiler from Wings West included two black plastic gaskets to go under those pillars. The outside edges do not come in contact with the rear quarters of my Camaro.

Ahh that must be the wonderful one that spoiler2000.com sells, what a pos it was and a fight to get them to take it back, tried to warn people about them.... stay AWAY, the wings west one is pretty nice, too bad A&A went under or stopped making them, that one even fit the stock 91-92 Z28 decklid for the mounting holes.

Mine did the same thing, I paniced as well, then I pushed down on the damn thing and it fit and looked fine! Its just how it goes with those spoilers. I got mine the same place you did too! Heres a pic after the install........

It came out just fine with no problems other then my painter not taking enough time to prep it for paint and now it has some bad spots in the paint. Its just what you gotta deal with if you go cheap ($189) and not GM ($499)!

This is the factory wing on my 91 Z-28:

The aftermarket ones aren't as wide.
