Hood Scoop

I want to put a cowl induction hood scoop on my car.I cant afford a new cowl fiberglass hood at the moment.I was thinking of buying a scoop and mounting it myself.Anybody done this? How did you mount it?Tape ,screws ,bolts, rivets, bonded?I have a hi-rise intake manifold my stock hood wont clear my Air cleaner. So my plan is to measure, cut a hole in the hood and mount the scoop.Any advice?

I cant say I've ever done anything like this, but I would want it to be secured by rivets or screws I would think. There is probably some adhesive that you could use though. Just make sure you lay it out properly before you do any cutting so it doesnt look off.

rivet it to the hood and then use body filler to blend in with actual hood

done it on mine not cowl tho ram air.

check out my site link in sig to it page 5

take yur scoop drill bunch a holes about an inch or 2 apart, get some long shanked rivets, pop rivet it down.

i didnt trust bondo alone since everyone says itl crack so i got a quart of fiberglass id recommend a gallon so you know u got enough, ground the rivets heads down a lil til almost flat but not too much, then fiberglass the seems were the scoop meets the hood to enusre good bond, let dry grind down some to get it a lil flat then bondo over n work yur *** off to get it right, and plan on using alot of bondo to make it right.
top coat w/ glazin spot putty sand and prime and paint.
anymore ?s just email or ask me

i forgot to be safer then sory u could use some seam sealer or caulk liquid nails any kind of adhesive maybe to glue it down then pop rivet and bondo and fiberglass.

tip i found to make it easy was to take some self starter,(drywall)
screws and screw thru the scoop and hood in a few spots like one in each corner then in middle on all sides.

then start drilling holes and riveting, remove screws and put rivet in their place, grind heads a lil, fiberglass, grind down some or sand, bondo, sand, bondo, sand etc. many times of bondo sand for me many many times!!!!!!!!

was totally worth it.

Thanks to everyone who posted or will post on this.I got the scoop last weekend.I bought it from JC Whitney. Its a ABS Plastic super cowl induction scoop. With the instructions it says you can use two sided tape 3M or their kit, rivet or bolt it.Bond it for a clean look.I found in a back issue of hot rod the details on cutting the hood opening.I dont think the tape will work but it might as the scoop doesnt lay perfectly flat.It will flex enough to bolt or rivet on tho.

put the tape on it just to hold it exactly were u want it so u can drill and rivet w/o worrying about it moving.

i didnt screw or bolt mine down because i didnt want screws backing out n stuf so i riveted it down solid . them long shanks i used made it secure they went thru the scoop, metal skin of hod and the iner frame of hood in some spots.
