Headliner Questions

I have the typical 20 year old headliner problem, sagging, torn material etc.

I was going to recover it but the liner backing is disinegrating, I then decided to just fibreglass over it but I am afraid that the resin will just melt the foam.

Any suggestions as to what I can apply over the backing before I glass it so that this doesn't happen ?

interesting idea, never thought of fiberglassing it...any type of plastic covering the backing pad should work fine...even duct tape or something should keep the resin from eating at the foam long enough for it to set up...once the fiberglass has started to set up, the backing probably won't matter much.

be sure to post some pics when you get it done

Ahh yes the incredible substance known as duct tape:hail: , I had thought of that but was hoping someone knew of a spray on or brush on varnish/shellac type finish for foam, if that is even what that yellow, crumbling stuff is under the cloth.

I intend to make a mold first and then if that turns out ok making up the headliner minus console/dome light holes.
