Hood Hinge Problem. Anyone else??

I am wondering if anyone here has ever had or heard of any hood hinge problems on Firebirds? What I am referring to is when the right side (passenger side) of the hood sits lower than the left once the hood is popped. I don't know if this applies to Camaros or if it's just a Formula thing bc of the different (not equal weight distribution) hood, but when mine was new the hood popped open and stayed even on both sides, after a front end accident it has never popped even again, I have new struts and have gone through two sets of hinges bc the right side (passenger side) hinge just seems to buckle and fold too soon when the hood is almost closed.

Anyone have this problem? Anyone know an adjustment "method" that I may be missing? I don't think that it's a bent fender mounting plate...

Thanks
Mark

I have that same problem with my camaro, I just figured it would fix itself when I get new hinges and struts. which is why I'm curious to know why yours still sags after replacing them. are you sure you replace both of the struts with new ones? I only replaced one of my rear hatch struts and the new one is way more powerful than the other one.

So, do you have the new hinges/struts on now? And they don't sag?
I have both new (5yrs old) struts, and have switched them from side to side thinking that one may be weaker but that's not it. I also removed both struts alltogether and the pass side still sags just a bit when opened.

Any one else heard of this????

I have seen this before on older cars. I think the hinges just wear out. I don't know what the fix is, but I know the sympton. As I recall, Every car I have ever seen this on, is the passenger side that dips when the hood is opened or closed. Is it possible to adjust the hinge to tilt more upward at the front. Maybe the 2 sides just aren't at the same angle causing the lower angled hinge to drop out first...

or maybe it's just something with a bad oem part, like the upper hinges on the drivers' doors. and if RPM WOT says that they sag after the struts are out than it has to be a worn hinge.

Actually my hinges were stock, and then after a minor front end collision, the hood was replaced but the hinges remained. They sagged so I ordered a brand-new set from GM, the hinges felt really loose, and when I installed them, they did exactly the same thing as the old ones. So recently I went to a local junkyard and found a 1984 Camaro with what appeared to be stock, tight hinges. I installed the right one on my car and still no difference. So at this point I am pretty much ruling out the hinges.

SCOTTMOYER, I agree with the possibility of an adjustment, but I have tried and nothing seems to help. The funny thing is that the D/S fender was replaced but the P/S remained the same, so the P/S hinge was probably never removed, and it is the one that sags!

I don't see any damage to the mount on the fender, so I am still trying to solve this problem.

How about the spring? Maybe something there??

Anyone else?

hinges are adjustable,

on the older vehicles than 80s with the old style large spring hinges the rivets and holes for the rivets would wallow out and cause the hood to stay up in the back at cowl, only fix was to get a good shape hinge assembly,

i would think on these cars though that its probably a matter of adjustment unless you see worn out rivet or hole, i notice on my 82 t/a that the driver side of the hood i have to pull yank forward to get the hood to lift up right,

probabbly just adjustment it needs im sure, ill deal with it some day later on when am working on smoothing out the body readying it for new paint hopefully maybe sometime this year, after i find Y pipe and manifolds and such i need to get everything connected, and also locate a 3.42 or 3.73 rear again so i can dump the 2.73 junk
