Painting my car?
I have a 92 camaro RS that is 2 colors. My bro wrecked it 7 years ago and i just put a new front end on it and the back end is the Purple color and the front end is red. Both look pretty crappy and i would either like to paint the front end just purple to somewhat match that back or repaint the whole thing. Ive never seen it done and know very very little about painting a car. How much does it cost to do it yourself and what are the chances it will come out half decent . I have the opertunity to borrow a spray gun so i dont know if that will help or not . someone else also told me that using special spray paint for cars works well also, though the guy tries to BS me all the time so he may be trying to do it again. ok thanks guys

well as i am sitting in my painting process im doing the whole car im at around $1300 for paint and supplys how good it comes out depends on how much you put into it for effert and time just remember this good body work and cheep paint looks good bad body work and expensive paint looks like **** you final quality depends on how good you do the body work as far as how you would go about painting the car its a long time consumming process if you paint isnt cracked or you dont have a lot of rust you could just da the car with some 320 and then prime then paint if you have rust you have to go to the steal and fix it or it will just come back trough the paint in 3 months if you have to fix a dent same thing go to metter with 36 grit then body filler it make it straight knock it down or shap it with 36 then fine tune it with 80 then smoth it and feather with 120 rember if the dent is a dine size it will take a silver dollor worth of body filler to make it look right even though it wont be it will just be an unoticable wave and out cars are full of them after you prime you wet sand with some 400 wet paper then you spray
sorry this is fairly broad and basic on how to paint a car but i dont have a digital camera to show you the steps i guess if you have never been around body work its best to leave it up to someone that does or talk with you buddys on kind of guiding you trough the process first hand just remember its alot of work

forgot to mention if your bumber has paint chipped off it like the factory primmer and you can see the bare bumper you will have to strip the whole thing they make a cemical stripper that is specifically for bumpers dont use anything else or you will kill it and have to get a new one also spray the stripper on then use a scotch bright and some laqure thinner on that and it all comes right off (little trick i learned)

Dont do it yourself man, i work at a body shop, its an immense ammount of work, if you had some experience then i would say go for it, but dont, find a guy that does side work at his shop, me and my buddies do it, after we are done with work, we bring in our own rigs and do them up, and make some extra money ont he side, so look for that...
