bumper cover repair????

my 86 z28 has big portions of the paint chipped off the plastic bumper cover, and in some places the paint has spidered, creating height differences . looking at it, i realized that traditional body work methods wouldnt work, due to the fact that the paint is so thick and comes off in a chip like manner, not to mention i cant pick the paint off. if anyone in autobody, or anyone in general can tell me how to prep this, so i can have my car painted, it would be very much appreciated.

Get some SEM bumper stripper and remove the paint. The stripper won't touch the factory baked on paint, so just strip until no more paint comes off.

just dont try and sand it off with a DA. The heat generated from the friction on the plastic can distort the cover. I have seen this happen before. especialy if there is a LOT of old paint and you have to leave the sander in one general area for a while. If all esle fails then buy a brand spanking new one

I was also wondering how to stripe the plastic bumpers... my car has been painted a few times and all the old paint is also cracking... I was afraid to try a chemical striper cause i thought it might damage the plastic bumper...
