Dash Crack Repair

I was lucky enough to have my dash split down the middle. That's a leather steering wheel cover streched across and stapled underneath.
For now, it beats Spending the $ for a new dash pad.

Guess I should have said that I don't have the $ for a replacement.

I also forget to mention that after trying to use a vynl repair kit from Canadian tire, the crack became a white foamy vally. Trust me, this looks better than it did.

If anyone wants to 'give' me a replacement so i can get rid of this 'gheto' cover up, let me know

That isn't ghetto. Duct tape is ghetto. At least you have some leather in the car now. You can always try to find a new pad at a junkyard. Bring some vinyl and leather conditioner with you and clean it up BEFORE you take it out... it softens it up and will prevent another cracked dash.

If you have money and are still looking for one in about 2 months, I'll have mine! I'm doing the 4th gen swap, and mines in perfect condition :P

I have seen them go on eBay for fairly cheap though. Like 10-15. Shipping was around 20.

Well, it was a good effort but you really need to look into replacing the dash. I paid 5.00 at my local junkyard to replace mine. JMHO because I'm a junior member. Good luck to ya.

stupid question...what causes dash cracks? I always assumed it was the sun beating down on a dash causes it to crack. Ive heard from other people that its because of our are unibodies.....any truth to that????

UV breakdown from the sun makes the vinyl fragile, then it cracks due to thermal expansion (low temperature causes the vinyl to shrink, causing tension, causing cracks).

Check this out. Here in the automotive capital of Canada, we have no 'pick a part' yards, and the few wreckers we have must just crush thirdgens from the get go (or are too lazy to look in the yard to see if they have any) because whenever I call or drop by, they never have anything...

RED GREEN!! :hail:

What causes dash cracks? Well, a few weeks ago the CD player in my S10 quit playing. I felt that like an old black and white TV set I could just give it a leeeetle thump on the dash to make all well.

I now have a cracked dash pad and a non functional CD player.
