My first time body work

Hello all, before I had posted questions about parts for firebird for a 87 firebird. I went a junk yard on this past friday at noon and stayed till closing (5pm) (I was happy, the junkyard was one of those walk in junk yards, I only know 2 in my area, 1 place you have to pay a fee, the other you don't) Anyways I worked on my own firebird when I got home and didn't stop till 3 am, then the next morn worked on realigning the hood and headlamps, I also want to thank who ever gave me those tips on the headlamps, heh. Here are pics, please tell me what you think, it was my fire time working with body work, I had to play at the junk yard to figure it out and then worked at home but anyways here are the before and after pics.

Thanks

I'm not painting untill I get my ram air II hood

I like the 82-84 nose better than the one you had....of course I may be a bit partial since I have an 82 =) Looks good...although I wouldn't go with a RA II hood...I think they're too bulky for third gens...its a bit disporportionate. It looks a little better with 85-90 TA nose and gfx, but I hardly ever like them on our cars. Get a power bulge hood...although once again I'm a bit partial to that hood too =)

But its good that you're giving your car a second chance and so far you've done a good job.

Thanks man, could you post a link to that hood you mentioned so I could get look at it, I don't like most of the ram air II hood because of the rounded off look, wanted a more squared off one but I wanted a hood that gave me some power if I installed a ram air kit, if I didn't have an air induction hood then the kit would be useless

ram air is only usefull at speds over 100mph just a fyi your not going to feel any increese in power by making it ram air the best thing you can do is get a cowl induction hood if set up right it will work better than a ram air or you could just make a cold air kit but the choice is up to you

Correction, there is no noticeable benefit from Ram Air at automobile speeds whatsoever. If you do it, do it for appearance. You aren't gonna gain anything else, other than you can do a pretty decent CAI setup that way.

The car looks nice... looks like you replaced the nose rather than doing "body work" but it's lookin' good... what color are you planning on going with?

All black look is great.

Just remember that if you are doing your own body work for the first time, black is the most "tell-tale" color of all, if there are any imperfections whatsoever they WILL show up with black. Just something to think about.

The power bulge hood is the hood on my car its a stock hood. came on 82-84 Trans Ams and then on 87+ Formulas I believe. I'd say you go with a cold air setup...ram air is just for looks. If you go with a ram air hood the ram air 1 I think fits a lot better on our cars. All black defintely doesn't look bad...once again I'm a bit partial =) If you want to break it up a bit you may want to paint it silver on the bottom like the black and gold recaros...with silver instead of gold of course. Do you have a wing on there? I think on your car the wrap around wing would look nice.

Thanks, could you show me a pic of the power buldge hood and a cold air intake setup you have a link for that so I could get some info, I thought different of the ram air hood untill now thanks for the info, I originally wanted it because I figured it gave some power but since it really doesn't, I don't like the look of it all that much, it is too rounded for our cars. I like the reg wing on the reg firebirds, I don't know why, I just don't like the wrap around spoilers. Although I was thinking a winge that was slightly higher, not the wrap around... sorry guys, but thanks alot on everything. Also should I just keep the dummy light pannel and install custom gauges for tac and such? I guess I'll just stick with all black thanks guys. Also I was thinking foglights in the nose now that I have a nose with those grilles that have cuts in it so that I could see the foglights? :lala:

The hood on my car is the power bulge hood...I already mentioned that...does the picture of my car show up? I like my stock spoiler too, but I like the wrap around one of the later birds as well, just thought I'd run that by you and see what you thought. As for a cold air intake, I'm carbed so I don't have the ability to do a cold air intake setup so I wouldn't know how...I'm sure someone else would be willing to help you out. I bought some fog lights that I've been meaning to install behind my grills as well just haven't gotten around to it.

Aww you said carb and you said you couldn't do it. That was enough info for me heh.... and no the pic of your car doesn't show unless it was the black one with the same nose as mine but all black, then I have seen it on another topic...

TBI is throttle body injection TPI is tuned port injection and that would be fuel injection not carbed. That picture of the black 82 is my car with the power bulge hood, that is why I posted it it in the first place, to show you I had the same nose as you and to show you the hood.

So then I have a tbi which is carbed and I like the hood, I found one at the junk on a blue formula, maybe I'll go back and see if they trashed and sold it, thanks alot as to my dash and such... also the outer door panel has rust on it and also has started to come apart as well damn rust. When you first had mentioned the hood, and that you posted a pic, it didn't actually load...untill now...ugh, sometimes I hate the net for these odd things that sometimes happens, but I did see it from a different forum.

Another question that I just remembered, is it worth the effort of converting the rear brakes from drum to disk, what are the ups and downs of both...please?

TBI isn't exactly carbed...you have throttle bodies not a carburator. As for going from drums to discs...I don't think there is a downside to having disc breaks. The only problem I foresee is that if you get large disc breaks out back you might have a problem fitting a smaller wheel. However if you just swap out your stock drums for some stock discs then that shouldn't be a problem.

TBI is Throttle Body Injection. It's fuel injection, barely.
