Removing door panels with windows stuck up
Removing door panels with windows stuck up
This is harder than replacing the trans. The car is a 91 GTA. The window stopped working, and it is stuck up. I believe the motor is shot, but I cannot even get to it because of the door panel. I cannot get the top piece to pop out. It can't go straight up because the window is in the way. I've tried pushing the window back, prying at the trim from underneath, smacking it out and up, etc. I've got a couple hours into trying to get this damn panel off. When I took it off before with the window down, it just popped straight up with no problems. Any tricks to removing it with the window up?

I took off and put back on the door panels on my Iroc with the windows up....it really wasn't any harder i didn't think. I had to do it that wasy cause the Formula gets the garage, and the Iroc is under a cover in the backyard with no motor or battery.

Here's the easy way. Open the door. Pull the panel off at the bottom after removing trim and arm rest. Then lift UP on the bottom of the panel as you push the upper trim towards the window. It may take a little while, but it will go. It's a lot harder with the windows up than down..
I had to remove a door panel on a rear door of a 4-door to fix the latching mechanism. If you roll the window down all the way you still get like four inches above the top of the door panel and this is the only way I got it off.

There's three notches (kinda) that hold the plastic top part in place on the inside by the window. You can usually get the rearmost one to unclip by pushing down on the top, and pushing it towards the glass. If you get that one undone, you may be able to slide that top plastic piece either forward or rearward to dis-engage the two other notches.
