HV(no)AC controls stuck after heater core replacement

A few years ago, I had the heater core replaced after it blew apart and dumped the radiator at my wife's feet...

Since then, the air flow control (upper slider) has been very hard to maniplate due to the left hand (red) cable being bound up. (This is why I no longer allow others to work on my cars...)

Any thoughts on where this could be bound up at? I know this is all kind of vague, but at least I could use a few suggestions to begin my search under the dash...

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure that the cable is the problem. I think it's what's connected to the other end...

During the repair.. w/o knowing, the liner of the cable control could have been kinked. Since the 'cable' is just a solid metal wire (not dissimilar to welding wire) both the liner and cable could have a kink in them. This would be a likely cause of the bind. You could pull the 'cable from the liner and straighten it and the liner as well but, it would probably be easist to aquire a new cable if possible. Just my opinoin though...

Anybody know where that red control cable goes to under the dash before I start dismantling in the wrong direction?
