Formula Cowl Induction hood

I've reecently installed a 1988 Formula induction hood on my 2.8 1987 Pontiac Firebird. This is a closed induction hood. Is it possible to make a functional hood with my F1 2.8 Multi Port? Or is it only possible with a 305 like on the 1982-84 Trans Ams?

Aqua, just about anything is possible, the key is having the right amount of talent, the right tools, and the perfect imagination to make everything come together. Making it functional would require fabricating some ducting, and an air cleaner setup, then running the ducting to the cowl, cutting the cowl open, and having all this "ducting" routed to the engine, through your current Mass Air Flow Sensor. The reason it was easier on the earlier model trans am's was because they were Carbed engines, which alllowed for the aircleaner to be ontop the engine and the piping necessary to be at a minimum as they're rather close to the stock location of the cowl opening. It'd also be the reason that GM most liekly opted not to include a cowl-induction formula, because the benefits would most likely not outweigh the extra cost, time, and effort in manufacturing the setup.

Good luck on ur choice.

i think it would be easier to do it with the 85-90 style TA hood since they have the fake vents in the front and your MAF is right behind them. all youd have to do is cut out under the vents and run some plumbing to the MAF. i think that would be easier the routing plumbing from the windshiled all the way to the front of the car with the formula style.

honestly for the gains it would provide, i don't think it would be wise to spend the time or money. but if you decide to do it, i hope you post pictures. love seeing new things, gives me ideas of my own goodluck if you do decide to go forward with the fab

Formula Hood

Bad news. The bold-on top of the formula induction scoop leaks. Whats the best approach to seal this?
