Window Tint On my 89' Trans-am
Hey guys sorry it's been so long sence I last posted anything useful. I have a question that maybe you guys can help me with. I plan on tinting the windows of my car and I was wondering how hard it is to do the back window and do it right and how much tint am I going to need for my side windows and my rear hatch window. Also what price range am I looking at and How should I go about doing this so it gets done right the first time. Aswell some suggestions on how dark to go would be nice. Thank you.

to get it done right the first time (especially the hatch) go get it done professionally...in the end the tint will last a million times longer, w/o bubbling or fading, and you save yourself a BIG headache.....if however you decide to pursue the tinting endeavor, make sure you keep the film really wet with soapy water ( on the sticky side) this allows you to adjust and align the tint with your windows. Get something flat...but not sharp, and work the air bubbles from the middle, out. Also make sure that when you cut, you leave yourself extra tint so you cant cut the rest with an exacto knife later. Good Luck, but remember, shop around first for a professional job....it'll look better!

oh and Im unsure of your tint laws in your state, but I have mine tinted at 15% all around (not legal for my state) but it serves a good purpose....you can see outside w/o any problems, but its hard to see inside the car (when outside)....if you're doing it yourself just get one of those tint rolls (from walmart, autozone, wherever) Im thinking that 2 of them should do the job (one can do both windows if no mistakes are made)
There is a guy on ebay called tint guys that sells the tint already precut. You may want to check it out. I bought the side window stuff from him and installed it no problem. Havent done the rear hatch thopugh. Seems a bit much to tackle.

hey thanks guys but how much is a professional job gonna cost? i mean i'm running on a slim budget here. see I was under the impression that because of the rear window defrost that I would have to cut the tint into strips that would fit in between the defrost line things? but i've been told that you can just tint over them and it doesn't cause any problems? am i being misled or not?

You could probably do the sides yourself,But leave the hatch to the pros.Good tint shops use a 1 piece hatch tint now.I got one of my cars done @ 20% for 150ish.

Just Make sure if you take it to a shop that the Film they use has metalized layer. This will insure that the tinter can Heat shrink the tint to the cure of the window. I used to tint For Ziebart and The Tint they used was a 7Layer Metalized film and It is probally the best film I have ever used. If ya are thinking about doing it yourself it really isn't that hard once you understand what you are doing and why it needs to be done.
On a hatch window for a camaro is probally one of the hardest windows to tint besides a 95 Eclipse and a Breattea. Just learn what fingers are what a anchor point is and how do Dry Heat shrink the film and it should go smoothly, just clean the window very very good.
BTW when cleaning tinted windows don't use anything that contains Ammonia, Espcially WINDEX, the ammonia reacts with the dye in the Window tint and this is why you see cars where the tint has turned purple. Water Works just fine cause Stuff don't stick to tint like it does glass.

after doing 2-3 cars you will be amazed how easy it becomes. just remember cleanleniss is next to Godleyness

hey thanks for the input but still how much am i looking at i mean yea i want to get it done myslef but it would be my first time at doing it and if I mess it up real bad and it looks like crap i'm gonna have to kick my own a$$ and i don't like to do that.
We can't tell you how much. You keep asking and nobody has given a firm number because it varies by location, type of tint, shop, etc.
In Florida, I can get my entire car done for $120. That includes the rear hatch and both sides. Down here, the price ranges are minimal, but 2 door cars are about $120. 4 doors will cost just slightly more. My truck needed just the side windows done with Llumar's best film and it was only gonna cost $40.
In MN, the same truck job was gonna cost me $85. The Camaro would have cost me somewhere around $250 or more. I just had to remove tint from 1 window and get new tint applied. The cost was a whopping $25 for removal and install.
As others have said, it's better to pay the professional. They'll give you 100% guarantee and lifetime product warranty.
