I'm unfamiliar with TA's, but in Camaros, if both speedos are mechanical, for example, the swap is a piece of cake. Check the opening comments on the following thread:

Yea see this is were I get a problem...86-92 are not cable driven, They are electrical, and I think they use the VSS.
Now if I get a 87-92 guage and just plug it in, will I have to replace the VSS or will it read accurate speed?
And will the odometer work properly too?

Vaker,
Sorry, I have no personal experience with your proposed swap. Perhaps you should consider a search if you haven't already. I'm also unsure about the trip odometer since the cluster is electric.

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
You'll just need to swap in the speedo head and the electronic board for that head. The VSS puts out the same signal regardless of what the speedo face reads; the electronics interpret that signal and send the proper output to the head.
Just five screws on the back of the cluster; two hold the unit in place and three for the electrical contacts.
