Switch placement on 4th gen console
Here's the plan, I would love to find a way to mount the window switches and hatch switch under the ashtray on my 4th gen console while allowing the lid to still open and close. So far in most aspects it appears to be almost impossible. If anyone knows how to do this or has any other ideas or pics please post...
Here's a pic of my interior. You probably won't be able to tell from it but I've removed the ashtray lid and the switches fan out unsightly from it...

100% possible. Mine does it.

Just gotta cut slits out on the sides so the door can close... and cut off a little piece of the under part is all. Opens and closes freely.

Forgot the hatch switch.. as for that... I made a little panel for the where that storage place was and put it there. Later on a put a mechanical oil pressure gauge there... and put the hatch switch where the defroster switch would have gone (I dont have one).

Thats exactly what I've been trying to do!! What of kind of material did you use to mount the switches on?? Where do I get it? What did you use to cut the holes out? Thanks man...

I just got a scrap piece of console from the junk yard and used a router bit to cut it ou... and clean it up. Polished it after that. LOTS of trial and error getting it to fit. If you want I could take some pics of the bottom part of it tomorrow.... I have the console and dash out of my car fixing some stuff. Just let me know.

If you don't have power mirrors the switches will fit, if you look down there you will see a flat spot on both sides of the ashtray, leave them and cut the rest out, leaving the hinge mounts. Take a peice of plastic and cut it to fit in. Then cut the holes in the plastic for the switches and then screw it into the the flat peices. I wanted my power mirror switch there so I did this
but I did what I said first but didn't like it so I ended up with this.

Sure man, if its not a lot of trouble.
It would probably save me a lot of time seeing from below how to properly mount it. Thanks again...

I cant find the switch plate to save my life right now... but here's the console:

The two screws I used for those holes.. are just regular torx interior screws. One of them had to be a long one to fit down into that dip. Plenty strong enough considering the plate/switch weighs almost nothing.
I had to cut out that 90* support deal and stuff, but that's not a big deal at all. I never got an ashtray in mine, so I dont know if that's a mounting spot for the ashtray or what. Anyway.. good luck with yours mang. I might be making another switch plate here pretty soon if I can't find it after I put my car back together.
