Hatch swaping

Is it possible to swap a hatch from a 86 TA with one from a 89 Firebird?

I mainly ask this because the 86 TA came with the 3rd brake light at the top of the hatch, while I prefer the firebird's which came in the middle of the wing.

you'll have to do a little wiring work, but it shouldn't be difficult at all... make sure you have 2 or 3 people to help you because the hatches are heavy and awkward.

wiring should be the same. The 86 3rd brake light that sat on the outside of the hatchglass got it's power from the rear hatch cover (the back panel that the hatch motor sits behind).

I've done it by myself before, just make sure you lay down a heavy moving blanket over the back of the car incase it slips onto the painted area while your moving it around.

it can be done on your own, but i stongly recommend having someone with you..
If you drop the hatch, you have one hell of a mess to clean up!

I agree, If you have a second set of hands definately put them to use. But if you're in a pinch, it can be done.

And yes, I have shattered one before. And yes, it makes a huge mess

When you tighten down the bolts on the rear decklid, start from the inside and go out. I did it opposite, and just as I was snugging up the last nut it imploded. Ever cleaned up 75 lbs of glass chunks before? Luckily I had another spare laying around...
