why laquer?

the new urathane enamels are way superior for shine ease of use and cost not to mention avalibility.

A great lacquer job will only last maybe 8 months to a year compared to a urethane paint job that will last for years if the prep work is right

my dad painted his 63 Impala SS about 23 years ago with lacquer...and the paint is still in fantastic shape...if it's done right, and not a daily driver...it will last...

There is no doubt about the longevity of lacquer if done properly and garage kept. However you would not want to use lacquer on a thrd gen because it is very ridgid paint and will not flex at all on the urethane bumbers and will crack likely within the first year of completion. Besides the stuff chips like crazy and needs to be polished regularly. Not really a practical solution for third gen cars.

There's no good reason to use lacquer anymore; urethanes , basecoat/clearcoats are far more durable and can give as good a shine as lacquer if done correctly. Besides, lacquer is no longer available in most states anyway.
