Replacing Power Window Switch

I ordered a new power window switch for my car. The only problem is that I don't really know how to properly remove the old one and install the new one. I tried a search but didn't find the info I was looking for. Any help would be appreciated.

you have to take off the console plate or shift plate whatever its called and then pop the switch off the harness they are a paint to get off but with somecareful prying they come off and then you just plug the new one in. thats what i did when i replace mine cuz the platic around the edges were broken hope that info helps you
good luck with the install

OK, sounds easy enough. I have one more question though. I tried once before to take off my shifter plate but I couldn't because the shifter wouldn't come off. I took off the button and the spring but after that I don't know what to do. I think you are just supposed to pry up on it but I would like to get confirmation on this before I try it . Thanks for the help so far.

i just un screwed the two screws under the console lid (holding the plastic peice down) and just lifted up on that end (leave the shifter plate intact) just poped it off the harness and plugged in the new switch

If you've got the button and spring off, there should be a C-clip in the ****. You'll need, oh, I think an awl and a small flat screwdriver should work (they make specialized clip removal tools too, but they're hard to find). Use the awl to hold one end of the C-clip and use the screwdriver to pry up the other side and pop it off.

Once that clip's off, you can just pull the **** off.
