91-92 GFX on an 86 sc, what needs to be done(EVERYTHING!!!!!!!)????
I'm like everyone else I want or would like to do a conversion on my 86 sport coupe to the 91-92 aero ground effects. I know that I have to get the front bumper cover w/ lower air dam/ground effects, and change the rear bumper cover to the 91-92 style. Ok, I know that much and that I need the rocker panel, door, and rear quater panel pieces. Ok, now what I need to know is, what other brackets and things do I need to make this a complete bolt on? I had seen in a junkyard a stripped down camaro, I seen the doors have a metal bracket that bolt on and I assume the gfx slip, bolt/attach to that bracket? I have also seen pics of other camaros in the paint process have a metal bracket on the rocker panel, is that correct? Both of thoose have brackets? If so then I know I need both thoose for either side, or 4 brackets, 2 doors and 2 rockers. That's what I need to know, what brackets do I need to make sure and get w/ the gfx, because more then likely I'd be getting them off ebay or another online place, so I need to know exactly whaT I'l need to make sure and have other then the front and rear bumper covers, and the6 gfx side peices.
What brackets, or other things do I need? Where are they? How many are there? Do you haves pics or can show me exactly what they look like so I know what I'm looking for? What else do I need to know or do? Fabricate anything? I know I need to drill holes, and what about the slit in the front fender? Do I have to cut my own? or can I live and do this w/o it? Do I have to get the impact strip/bumper pad/egg crate things, for the 91-92 bumper covers or can I use mine? If so do I need to do anything to them? Cut em', extend em'? Other then that what do I need anything I've left out? Or any secrets I need to know about or tricks of the trade on doing this?

well the main bracket you will need is the one that mounts underneath the body that runs under the doors for the bottom long rocker panels you will have to cut out the spot welds to get them off another car or just cut out the whole bottom section of that runs underneat the door so you arent laying on the dirt of a junk yard trying to cut out spot welds then do that later.
You will need to cut slots in your fenders to mount the front gfx and part of the longer piece, as well as drill some holes in the lower part of the 1/4 panel to put on that small piece. Also line up the door gfx and drill holes for that piece.

So that means there are 2 door brackets and 4 rocker ones? Ones on top of the rocker panel and ones under? Or the one I've see in pics thats right under the door where it opens is the one your talking about that I need to dril out spot welds?
When I go to put that piece on the car do I have to weld it in or can I drill holes and bolt it on, pop rivet, or screw it on?
See I know it sounded to easy to just get em drill a few holes and your done, I knew there was something everyone was forgetting to say on doing this swap. Basically ppl would just be sending my the fiberglass pieces, the skirts themselves and woulnd't be sending me the metal brackets.
OK next question, do the brackets have to come from a 91-92? or can the be from an older model z28 or rs? I already have a car in mind and I beleive it to be the 85-90 style car but it may be the later style I'm not sure because it is just a shell basically, no bumpers or lights, just interior and doors and thats bout it.

I have a 91 that iam taking gfx and rear bumper off of and putting on my 87 iroc. I am also putting 87 gfx back on the 91 for sale. to answer of your second question The brackets for the rear portion of the gfx(bellow lower corner of door) will be needed off a 91-92 car. The panel like bracket (lenght of door) aerosmithr0cker refers to would work off 85-90 but it is not as wide. When i put the oldgfx on the 91 i had to cut about inch from middle it is rounded as opposed to flat across like 85-90 bracket.
I could try to get pics but i wont promise any thing.

Im not sure if it would work or not, i was gonna do the same conversion till i decided to sell my 87 and build my 89 iroc. The best advice i can probably give you is find a parts car or go the junkyard and take off the rocker panels and makesure you cut off every bracket you need. the 91 and 92 door length rocker panels have more mounting tabs than the older ones too if i remember correctly.

Yea i pretty much was wanting to get them off the net like ebay or some other places, but I need to hit a junkyard if I found a 91-92 around here and even if it has the fiberg;*** pieces or not or is torn all up I need to take it apart myself and get an up close and personal look at it to see exactly what brackets I would need to do this.
If I got the fiberglass pieces in my possesion I could probably hold them to the car and figure out a way to fab up some mounting brackets of my own to bolt em on the car.

You could probably do that and make it work. I think i remember seeing a post on here once about that for the long under door pieces.
You could always get the fiberglass pieces off ebay then cut off any backet you need at a junkyard.
