Project Blackbird is underway - pics (56k go away)

Another new paintjob in the making. For the most part, the original paint was in great condition, only a few spots where the paint was going bad. Clearcoat overall was good, but there were a number of lsmall chips in the clear in a lot of places. Luckily nearly all of them were only in the clear and not into the base. A couple of dents that will be pulled and filled, then 4 coats of fresh black paint. Not seen in the photos is the markers, parking, and tail lights coming off, as well as the emblems, front grill, and lower front gfx.

More photos to come.

A while back a rust spot popped up on the A-pillar down near the bottom. We originally thought it was just surface rust. Upon removing the trim around the windshield, as well as inadvertantly part of the windshield (which is getting replaced anyway) we found two holes along the edge of the A-pillar.

As of tonight, all of the car is sanded except for the rocker panel ground effects, should be ready for paint tomorrow evening.

not exactly sure how it happened. Had to have been a bad spot in the paint. Living on the Gulf coast doesn't help either.

Water leaked in behind the trim and couldn't get out, so it rusted. It is very common around the windshields and back glasses of older cars, even in the south.

Antera copies of the Firehawk basically. Spokes are a little thicker. Will have more pics tonight.

I wondered if someone else was going to bring this up. Good luck with the repairs. I have similar repairs to make to my 'bird before repainting her.

you taking the handles off? lock buttons, gfx emblmes at the least. if you paint around the handles it will most likley be the first place to start pealing.
