1986 Iroz shifter ball

Hi I just purchased a 1986 iroc with an automatic trans. The shifter ball slides down the shaft and the previous owner had electrical tape on the shaft holding it up. Does anyone know what I would need to fix this problem . Thanks

there is a little C clip that you are missing that holds it from moving down the shifter.

well, dont call it cut and dried that fast. i know on my 86 Z28, the problem actually is not the C-Clip missing, but the part of the plastic shifter that holds it is broken out. so C-Clip or not (hell, mine was still in place) it still slides all the way down the shaft...its freakin annoying, ain't it?
