hole in dash too big for radio

The car had no radio when i bought it, but had a big hole for the radio. I wired up a Jensen CD player and it works fine, but the hole in the dash is about twice as tall as it needs to be, so the cd player is just sitting there loose. Is there some sort of spacer or something that I can use to get it secure? Any ideas??

I'd take it to some place that installs CD Players themselves, and ask them what they would use, then ask them how much it would cost you to buy one from them (if you feel uneasy letting them install it, or dont feel like spending the extra money for professional installation)

The hole in our cars is a double DIN sized hole.

If you go to any car audio shop you should be able to get an adaptor plate to hold the cd player.

Once you assemble it, it will all make sence.

It is not a double din, our cars are a din and a half. All GMs are Din and a half.

Best buy, or any car audio store should sell the adapter for the slot. Personally im going to be buy a Din and a Half sized Pioneer Head Unit when I get aroudn to that part of my rebuild.

The cheapest place to get them is Wal-Mart. They're in automotive by all the car stereos. Just look on the pegboards for radio installation kits. You need a DIN-and-a-half and I believe the applications are listed on the box/bag.

I ran into the same problem when installing my clarion deck about 7 years ago. I used a thin piece of plywood and cut it the size of the opening. I then created a rectangular space inside the plywood for the stereo. I then drilled holes to mount it in place. After it looked like everything was going to fit, I removed it and glued carpet (matching the interior carpet) onto the plywood and then reinstalled everything with the stereo. It looks great even after 7 years.
