Best looking hood for trans am
Can you guys give so of your thoughts on what aftermarket hood would look the best on a 1986 trans am?
I was thinking about either the 4" cowl hood or the ram air 2
Also will the ram air 2 hood work with a x-treme flow lid from K&N?
Here she is

Personally, I don't like the look of the Ram Air 2 hood. It only goes well with a FEW combinations. The 'good' RA1 hood looks much better IMO. There's more hoods than just those 2 tho. The cowl's give it a unique look, the SS hood might look good. I haven't seen a pic of the SS 'Bird hood on a car other than the maker's pic. I like the IMSA hood..but they don't make it anymore

Sorry, Xceleratemaro, I think the R/A hood looks sooo wrong on a 3rd gen Firebird. Just MHO. It's like a 3rd tit on Elle McPhearson... I like **** and Elle but a 3rd one on her just wouldn't look right!
i think you should stick with your stock trans am hood , but put a shaker hood scoop from an early 70's trans am , they are bigger than ones that came from like 77 and they are also function , as opposed to the 77 with is non function.
dont do the ram air 2 thing , it looks like crap .

i think the ram air hoods look much better on the TAs then the cowl hoods... in my opinion i think the cowl hoods look way better on the camaros... but its up to you.

I've had both the ASCD RAI and RAII hoods on my 87 TA, and while both looked good I think the RAII looks a little better. I changed more for hood clearance than anything else. The Suncoast RAI is my favorite for injected cars; it has a functional airbox, and looks more like a factory hood (though it is pricey). Cowl hoods can look good on a TA also, esp if you graft in the TA hood vents...that makes it look a bit more Pontiac.
Also, Hawk's has a new hood (they call it the Super Duty, but its basically a taller SS hood for a TA) that might look good on the right car, but I haven't seen it on a finished car yet.

To be honest my favorite hood for a t/a is a stock gta hood but.........if you have to go aftermarket go with the ram air 1 hood!
if i had to do it again i dont think i would get the ram air 2 hood. Id actually like to do something else. But the way i have my car now it all goes together . If i did another 3rd gen trans am i would do this to the hood.

Yeah, the one on the left looks much better.... It flows with the rest of the car's look and doesn't stick-out.

They are all good looking hoods; some just fit the specific car/owner better than others. To me, the RA1s look best on any 91-92 models and 8?-90 Formula (or any 'bird without ground effects), the RAIIs on 85-90 TAs. I really wish someone would offer the powerbulge hood in fiberglass, maybe with a slightly taller version for us carb guys.

that shaker looks sweet! Would it fit under a stock hood with the edelbrock performer rpm air gap? or even just the performer rpm? How are the pre 77 shakers functional, are they throttle controlled or always open? *** that looks sweet. Im going to dump my power bulge for something different, it has nasty hail damage and i want to put a bird on the hood, hard w/ the uneven hood.
