quieting the rattles

This is kind of "shade tree", but it is working for me... I've been on a de-rattling crusade since buying a neglected 91 RS. I've replaced/fixed the door hinges, will be getting frame rails soon, and tightened 1000's of loose bolts. Now I have found that descretely dabbing silicone from a caulk gun on loose parts like wires behind door panels, and other areas that I can't tighten with a new screw has made the car much quieter. Also on the ground effects where the little plastic plug things that attach them are--a little silicone there stopped a lot of my outside rattles. I've got more silicone than Ms. Anderson-Lee, but my car is quiet now!

I tell you what will REALLY help quiet the 3rd gen's ( as well as just about ANY other older cars that are prone to creaking and rattling ) is adding sound insulation under the carpet, behind the door panels, and all interior panels....

After seeing / hearing the difference on a 2nd gen I helped restore, I've done this on every one of my project vehicles since.

Which sound insulation material do you use? Dynamat? Similar? Which adhesive do you secure it all with?

Thanks!

Ive tried the silicone trick on my doors and it worked for a couple months and then it returned.. might have been the way it was done or the type of silicone I used, dunno! It definately worked hella good for awhile.
