Interior Rust
After 2 years of not being able to work on my 86 Iroc I finaly have been able to move it into my Buddies Shop and begine the Teardown to get it ready for Body work and a New Paint job.
Stripped the Backend carpet and Trim out and everything looks great. Moved forward and pulled the Backseat, Passenger Seat, and Center Consol out today but couldnt get to the Drivers side cuze its being a PITA(anyone know how to get the plastic trim outa the way to access the seat bolt near the Seatbelt?). Pulled and Passengers side carpet and padding up and guess what...the Padding was completly soaked. Seems I have a T-Top leak oh yay. Dried the Standing water up and the Floorpan has a significant amount of rust though it hasnt eaten through that I can tell yet(still need to pull the drivers seat!!).
Was thinking about using POR-15 but I want to clean up as much of this rust as I can before I coat. Whats the best way to get the rest off and get between all the cracks and such to get that crap out without sandblasting? Thanks again

As for the POR prep. Im also about to put down some por-15 so I have been tearing apart the floor for the past few weeks. I didn't really have any rust surprisingly!!! even with my horrible 8+ year t top leak. But basically since you do have rust just get rid of all the loose stuff. Por loves to be coated over rust.
What I have been doing is sanding my entire floor pan to bare metal. Im tearing out the crap seam sealer too. As for all the cracks I just used a wire wheel on my drill to strip the paint right up to where panels meet or overlap. I wish I knew of a way to get in places like the INSIDE of seat rails that are welded to the floor.

Thanks for the Reply.
Got the whole interior out except for the wireing(wanna lable everything before hand). Figured I would just use a 3inch grinder with a wire wheel to knock all the lose scale off and maybe find a type of cone wheel on a drill to help get between the cracks and such.
Im just glad I caught it before I lost my Floorboards.
