What in Bush's name am I supposed to do about this Ttop rust????????
I am in the process of por-15 ing my entire floorpan so I thought I should take care of any rust I find in my car. I have know since I bought the car 8+ years ago I had a massive t top leak and had rust under ther top windshield corner where the t top locks on the passenger side. I knew it was bad all along but didn't have the time to deal with it. The picture below was taken before I touched it. Basically after I did touch it that corner just completely flaked off. I partiallly pulled back the weatherstrip and the rust isn't too bad past this area. What is the proper way to fix a problem like this? And what caused water to seep into this area? That may sound stupid but I have yet to see any water or wetness in the area or leak through the t top seal. Ive done the powder test, direct hose spray, I check it after driving in rain buts is never wet. SO help me figure out how it is rusting and how to fix it.

Is this liquid metal stuff your talkin about thin or thick? Can it be built up? IS it basically like JB weld? See, that pic above was a before pic, after I touched all that rust you see, the whole corner crumbled and is now completely gone now. So I need something the can be built up so I can rebuild the corner. And before anyone says I need a new pillar welded in if thats even possible or feasible, thats not an option for me at this point.
What I was thinkin about doin was getting the rest of the loose rust off and painting whatever remains with some POR-15. Then building up a new corner out of JB weld till I can afford to repair it the correct way whatever that may be.
Also still trying to find how water is getting to this area? see original post above before commenting.
Thanks, GW.

I had to weld to fix the rust on the t-tops on my 89 RS. I had a friend that knew what he was doing so it was really easy. Different area as your problem, but even worse rust. I hoped it was surface rust but I was wrong, it was all the way through multiple layers of metal. Not really sure how you can properly fix the entire corner flaking off without welding. You dont have to weld on an entire new pillar, just enough metal to fix the damaged area. I would consider anything else a "band-aid" fix that will cause more problems further down the road. But hey, maybe its not as bad as I'm imagining and you could get away with using filler or JBweld or whatever. If I didnt have a friend that welded, I would have taken it to a shop that knows how to fix it. IMO that is the best way to fix your problem (even though thats not what you want to hear).

yeah its just goin to be a bandaid fix till I get some extra $$$$$. I figure if I can cover the rest of the area with POR-15 and find where the water was coming in and stop it, I should be good for awhile. I wish I knew someone who welded though.
