Cable-Driven Speedo Problems

My 85, then 115 speedo functioned perfectly. I swapped in a 145 which experienced a bouncing needle. I sent the head in for recalibration. After it was returned, I cleaned the cable housing and relubed the cable itself. The needle still has a slow swing of some three or four miles an hour--which on a 145 appears huge. Am I missing something? Advice?

It could be just a coincidence that the needle is not steady with the new speedo. I guess the only way to find out is to reinstall the old speedo and see how the needle reacts. I'm willing to bet the old cable just decided to go out at the same time you changed the speedo. Maybe moving it around aggravated a pending malfunction.

You're likely right, though I did at one point swap the 115 back in (before recal of the 145) and it was spot on just as it had been previously.
