Headliner recover question......

I have the material and spray on glue to recover my old headliner. I notices that when the old fabric was removed there was a layer of something under it. This unknown stuff could be removed from the headliner.

I would like to know if I need to cover the cleaned liner with something else to stabalize it before the glue and new material is applied?

The unknown substance was most likely the foam backing from the headliner material. To my knowledge and the knowledge of my friend who runs an upholstery shop, you don't need to do anything to stablize it. I don't know what you plan to recover it with but it should have some type of foam backing to the material.

Foam Backing

Thanks for the info, I just read some other posts that also verified that.
