Need help finishing my new Ram Air1 hood
I bought a ram air hood & had to fix it a little. Fixed some cracks, a corner was busted, & I took the time to smooth the botom part.
Now that is ready to send it to get painted Im not shure if I should install it on the car first. Its from American Sports Car Design, and is a Ram Air 1 hood.
The thing is that I dont want to have the car stoped for a few days, but Im afraid that I might have some fitment problems and dont want to paint it and then have to fix it again.
I need some info from people that have done this before.
One more thing right now I nave the GTA hood on the car & Im shure I can install the side extractors & that would make the Ram Air 1 hood look a lot better but I dont know how mush that will weaken the fiberglass hood. what you guys think about this? will it be safe for the hood. Oh & I forgot to mentiion that the hood will have hood shocks so that it will stay up.

make sure it fits the way you want before you send it off to be painted, then get it painted on the car so they can blend the paint into the quater panels aswell

so if is not on the car the paint might not match?
& the underside needs to be painted, can this be done correctly wiht the hood installed?

if its not on the car it might not look the same, my guess is they'll spray the underside of the hood first, let it dry then put it on the car and paint the hood and quater panels

you're not going to get a "blending" on the car. Just because of the prep invovled, if that was the case, when you had a scratch, you could fill the scratch, smooth it, and then paint the area where you used filler, and "blend" it into the rest of the body, only applying paint where needed. In order to hide what's been painted and what hasn't, they need to have a body line to use. The hood makes a good body line, however, it doesn't work correctly when placed next to fenders. The way they'll get everything to look "right" is to paint the hood, fenders and probalby the front facia too. You could send them the hood and let them shoot it, the install it yourself if youd like, but you'll risk the paint not matching up. If the guy is really good at matching paint colors and wear, then let him go at it, and do what he thinks is right. Either way, i'd see you painting the whole front end, especially if the paint isn't that great anyway.

OK, so I guess the best way to go at it will be to go to my bodyshop and have them do the underpart of the hood. Then install it & then do the front. Anyway I need to change a fender & would like to get a new bumper.
