Restoring an Engine Bay

Im swapping v6 to v8 in my 84 Firebird. I was wondering what POR-15 is and what the best way to get a clean looking engine bay is? I know I will have to sand and paint probably, but any tips would be appreciated. Also, do you think black engine bays, or body colored engine bays look better? Thanks guys and wish me luck on the swap, I know I will need it!

body colored generally looks best to me, but it depends what you plan on spending and how fancy you want to get. Getting it done in black with just average quality will save you money. POR-15 is UV sensitive so if you decide to use it in the entire engine compartment (hopefully not necessary), be sure to topcoat it. I used POr-15 on my k-member and rear axle and both came out very nicely.

Ive used POR-15 and i think its great. I'd recomend using it. It can used right over rust and it even last and protects very well.

Body colored engine bays look the best. Just be sure to do it right the first time, as you don't want to have to take every thing back out to fix a mistake you made the first time. Good luck on the engine swap!!

por 15 is great. i used it on my truck before and now i am in the process of using it on my k-member and other chassis parts, i wouldnt use it in the engine compartment though. i think that you can get a nicer finish with spray paint if done right.
