Rust bubbles under paint, what causes it???
Hey guys, I have this small problem with tiny rust bubbles under the paint on my camaro. They are mostly on the roof and some small spots on the a pillars. Over the years, they haven't gotten any bigger but I am still kinda worried as the car is nowhere near ready for prep and paint yet, and neither is my wallet for that matter. Can you look at this pic and tell me if this is something I should be worrying about? Thanks, Paul Moore

Looks as though you have body rot (rust) eating its way through from the inside out.
Anytime you can see rust physically lifting the paint... yes, you should worry.
In lucky cases, it just rust starting & creeping on the surface from a chip or similar problem that allows water under tha paint. This problem can be surface treated before it spreads any further w/o having to add in new metal.
Usually when it's to the point of scaling though, you can poke through the metal with a somewhat solid pointy objet or, in worse cases, you can peel it away with you fingers. Best fix to problems this far along is metal replacement.
Here's the suprise usually waiting on the other side....

Bad news for ya...if you have rust bubbles like that, it is already through the metal. Might as well plan on welding in some new metal.
