I could never see myself spending a G on some seats, I mean the entire 4th gen conversion with leather seats costs less than that. Do you guys really think you are getting your money's worth? I haven't sat in all these seats, so maybe I'm missing something here.
i really like my corbeau seats but i grew out of the leather as it was only really nice for shows. after finally tracking down a set of sparco milano i couldn't believe the difference in comfort and support, not to mention the alcantra material was so much more comfortable over the stiffer leather that corbeau used. i then had a chance to check out recaro and couldn't believe the difference in the construction of the seat frame. truly above and beyond both corbeau and sparco with nicer leather then corbeau and better suede then the milano.

i agree paying 1,000 a seat is high for a street car or something you may not care about but people spend thousands on rim/tire combinations, suspension and power adders why not get something that makes you comfortable enjoying those options and looks good doing it. now a good example is the summit seats, they may not say any big name brand but for the price they are the best seat i've ever sat in and my corbeau trs seats didn't say corbeau on them so what's the difference? they are not better in construction or comfort to say sparco or recaro but they are damn close to corbeau and for a fraction less.

another example is the 4thgen upgrade, in all honesty the camaro versions don't support at all and are about as comfortable as a worn out pair of 3rdgen seats. the ta seats are nice but comparable to a brand new pair of thirdgen seats with similar build. for a quick, cheap upgrade they are a great alternative but they don't compare to some of the aftermarket seats and they aren't intended too.

in the end everyone has to make their own decision but to me it's definately worth it as the comfort level is 10 fold and i have to be comfortable driving the car. go to any autoshow and sit in 10 cars all with different seats. chances are you'll find a seat that feels better then another natrually, it's all about what feels right for the driver. luckily when your building a car you get to choose exactly how you want it, why not choose right the first time? if you are comfortable in a set of summit seats that only cost $400 that is great because that's alot more to use towards the car.

especially with sliders. you can't go wrong with the summit seats if you like the look. apc seats, especially they're new carbon fiber versions are really cheap and nice as well.... too bad for the logo though.

well if u do recaro you don't have a whole lot of time left. recaro is going to stop making racing seats and just make o.e.m. seats for chevy ford chryshler etc. there is just more profit there.

you have to build a car before they come. the last car i had 5 sponsors and 4 major indoor show winning trophies as well as 4 publications and it was still difficult to get comanies to recognize a thirdgen.

slowly changing that one page/company at a time..

What type of material seat are they going to want you to run?

For some reason Recaro seats seem big and bulky and the was the trend on the 80's 90's. I seem to wanna picture them in old Vettes and Firebirds. Seems like Sparco has the largest market share now and the best looking design and styling.

So which one you going with post some pics?

Aww thanks Kandied! Very nice choice in seats Kadied...I would have went with a different model than the one below! just kidding!

you can not go off of pictures and you can not compare the two side by side... seats are preference as in wheels, paint, motor, etc. this time around i am going for comfort and build quality over all else and choosing my materials and design of the seat to work with the rest of the material. they will look good.

Sponsorship.... sweet!
If you aren't being sponsored, this is the best company online to buy from for Recaro and Sparco seats. My Recaro sports were $230.00 cheaper here than any other vendor I found!
AZ seats
BTW - I'm loving the feel of these seats, they are incredible and really change the way your car feels and communicates the road surface. They also have a suspension system in the bottom of the seat that makes a world of difference. The Sports are preferred over the Speed's in a 3rd gen as the Speed's have much higher thigh bolsters, making entry and exit very difficult!

One thing to warn about, though. The Metra seat adapters suck, the sparco adapters sit them WAY too high, and I ended-up making my own that sit it at the right height and allow enough slider travel for a 5'11" me. The other brackets sat me too close and of course our fun floor mounts (everything at different hieghts and line-ups) made this task much more fun. If you can cut and weld, and want these seats, pm me and I'll send you the plans for them.
Another minor headache, the seatbelts. If you are using factory 3-point belts you will need to guide the belts around the edge of the seat as without it, the belt will choke you, literally! The angle of the roof mount brings it right across my neck! I've got a potential fix for this that I'm carving-up on the mill Thursday, I'll keep you updated.

I didn't call, but I was searching for Recaros when I found their prices way lower. I may be speaking from ignorance on the Sparco pricing, sorry.
Whoa! After just checking the site I did notice that my seats went up $85.00 each since August!! Oh, well.....

try sponsorship... the cheapest i found was 500 a seat and that was through a local distributor here. not sure if they ship. i've found display models for as low as 350 but that of course is without shipping and would be red with some slight sunfade.

not many people budget on seats unfortunately. now the recaro seats the best i've seen is $717 and that was at one of the sites i listed.

still talking to a few audio companies, i'm in the middle of redoing my portfolio so that it looks unbelievably good. I still have stewart warner performance gauges and a few local shops. Once the NOPI events start up, i ought to be able to talk to some companies in person and really get a good feel and let them get a good feel for me.

no they are not. use the existing stock side bolt holes and then weld the shoulder belts to the cage... or use bolt holes in the rear at the angles described in other threads.

Excellent thread guys! I've been trying to decide between the Sparco Milano's and Recaro's myself. I'm not real big on full leather seats...I hate worrying about them wearing out over time, so I'm going the cloth route...with possible leather trim. I like the fact that the Recaro's are lighter weight.....so that makes me lean towards them.

Thanks for the excellent info!
- Joel

I like the fact that the Recaro's are lighter weight.....so that makes me lean towards them.

Thanks for the excellent info!

they aren't that much lighter. however the build design of the actual seat is nicer as it's molded material rather then a cross stitched metal frame. you really need to sit in them and see them in person to make an educated decision that would fit your need.

I've been unable to find actual weights on the recaro seats. Sparco has the nice PDF file showing you all the seats and their weights... anyone found something similar for recaro?
