yea, I was surprised how good my original console felt when I put it back in whilst working on the 97+ console for about a week.

It's funny how big of a persuasion a cupholder is.

The only thing I would change about the stock interior, is colors to match perfectly, add a cupholder or two, better quality, and maybe some rearranging of colours.

I used to like the factory thirdgen dash until I heard it described by one of my friends as a "kitchen table"

i dunno our dash isnt near as big as 4th gen dashes are so im not too disappointed there...my older bro (98 z28) and mom (02 TA) have huge dashes and make the car feel so big and bulky which i dont like personally

also i love the orange lighting behind the gauges...its old school style and i havent driven too many cars with orange lighting

what i would change
maybe some cupholders would be nice
change the floorboards so floor mats would fit correctly
better quality plastics that didnt break and crack so easily
and quieter interior components that dont rattle so much

Assuming price was no object, 4th gen T/A conversion with everything covered in leather. And I mean everything (dash, doors, sails, everything). I would go two tone with colors that were similar but not the same and of course they gotta accent the exterior paint. The rollcage would be installed as close to the body as possible with everything installed flush around it (all interior panels shaved and molded flush) so the bars dont protrude, no sidebars (yeah I know not NHRA approved whatever, this is a street car cage). The most comfortable seats out there (dont know because I haven't sat in them all) with the rears in matching leather. And of course you gotta have crazy sounds/video.

Pretty much what I plan to do to my car except for the leather, expensive seats, or the crazy custom cage (wish I could afford that LOL).

id leave my interior just the way it is black, 4th gen black/grey seats, overhead console, 99 z28 air bag steering wheel, and its gotta be a pre 90 dash. im not a big fan of the ugly half moon gauges and yellow lettering. only thing i would add would be some cup holders.

so beyond seats, steering wheel and interior material most of you seem very pleased with the looks and feel of your interior.

Stock interior with lots of leather and Alcantara to cover all the cheap plastic panels. But not the dash, only the pad. Everything else wrapped in fine quality dead cow would be sweet.

all keep it vague,

-a good interior to me is a new material choice (leather etc.) for seats, door panels, steering wheel etc...sorry gm but i hate cloth.

-keep number of materials and colors down (optimumal is 2 imo)

-autometer gauges with no crazy tach and stupid tach light hanging everywhere, keep the instruments inside the stock cluster and if anything make your own custum inlay.

-I am not one for chrome and shiny objects but to each his own, i have found brushed nickle and aluminum to compliment black interiors though.

-overall the stock layout of our interiors is the best to maintain space, depending on the use of the car (straight out race car or dd) somemight want a system and placement of cd/dvd players can drastically alter an interiors looks...

-and as far as overhead consols im more of a t-top/vert guy so id rather have the least amount of stuff above and around my head and if its a hard top i would perfer as much space around my head as possible (6'2) but if your 5'6 i guess it could look nice...

-and if your going for another show car look custum lighting is always attractive if done right.

those are some of my opinions and anyways good luck on this project Kandied91z i know you will blow us away...

Well the only thing left after seats, steering wheel and interior material is the dash... and doorpanels. Unless you are going with a stock restoration look the "kitchen table" dash sticks out like a sore thumb IMO and the factory door panels suck something aweful unless they are the black plastic ones found in the later years.

These are just plain nasty:

I just feel that the factory interior is so dated to the 80s... there is no way to update a single component... like nice seats or a billit wheel without it sticking out like a sore thumb. You gotta go all or nothing. If you don't like the 4th gen look you can always go custom.

This look is great... but a little over the top:

A "little" over the top?
Does that interior come with a pimp suit?

most major fabric stores can help you, pick up a yellow pages and start calling. you can get matching material from seat companies but you'll pay more.

for reference recaro charges $250 for 5 yards of alcantra.

well first of all your asking for alcantra... not exactly suede but it is expensive. if a normal jacket you wear goes for 150-200 easy your obviously going to pay for 5 yards of it.

fabric stores are your best bet, then try custom interior shops as some might be able to order it or just look up on the internet. be careful though as alot of people try passing off material that isn't really it and you'll get burnt.

for me...
nice racing seats and 3" 5pt harnesses. new carpet, custom door panels, custom center console (or 98+ fbody console), and a custom steering wheel and shift **** to match. 98+ fbody dash with custom autometer gauge setup. deleted rear seats with an amp rack (JL) and nitrous bottle in their place. the cargo area is for the two twleves (JL) and a roll bar is a must (id say a 6 or 8 pt) nitrous bottle painted body color and the enitre interior jet black leather.

that sounds a lot like mine

I have my Dream interior. All black leather paneling and pristine Black leather Ultima seats. Not to mention cupholders on the doors. I have black carpeted speaker kicks that look like they came with the car. Courtesy of Rezon8r wherever he is. The carpet looks minty fresh with no wear marks as do the floor mats. I spend a week at the begining of the year preping the interior. And when im done youd think i just came off the assembly line.

Fatal88's interior is as close to "perfection" as you can get

not stock and not 4th gen. I'm not one of those people that believes "if you want a 4th gen dash you should've just bought a 4th gen," its just not my thing.

-keep the guages looking factory, but have the speedo recalibrated for 160, maybe 180 mph, with custom inlays, tach with correct inlay for redline for current engine. shift light hidden

-redo the door panels and get rid of all the squeeks and rattles

-better seats but not anything full race, semi-factory pattern

-custom center console

-steering wheel, but not one of those cheap GT ones from Autozone, maybe something factory from another car if possible

-better lighting, such as footwell lighting, rear seat lighting, maybe theater lighting

-faster window motors

I'd want something that wraps more around the driver. Possibley an integrated center console/dash. Obviously you'd need a removed plate on top of the center console to get to crap beneath. Something 240sx-ish or supra-ish that would bring everything closer and more visible. Place for a small lcd screen as well as stereo headunit. Aftermarket guages mounted directly in above the steering shaft and some sort of multi function HUD unit.

The interior like they had in "Knight Rider" KITT's interior. Maybe a few less buttons and in grey
