an appearance question

pillar guages. leave them or relocate to the center console?

i'm fighting with this idea as they could fit and work very well in the new console but i've always like pillar guages. however to be honest they are more often in the way then anything else as after the novelty wears off it's sometimes aggrivating.

what do you think?

everyone has them in the pillar, it'll be cool to see something different.

we just had a 79z at work that was done right. the whole inst cluster was removed and somebody fabbbed up a nice plate and mounted all new autometer gauges. I like em there best...still right where your used to looking in any other car ,and youve got em all right there at a glance, plus when done right new gauges fabbed in the old cluster location looks kickin! If you go that route you gotta do it all tho no half new half stock krap.

yes yes and yes
get rid of the stock cluster, cut out a panel and mount a huge tach in it and a tiny little speedo just the way it should be and obv anything else you want in there. Thats by far the best route imo. I also think personally im going to remove my a/c, take the vents right out of the dash and build a box that i can mount gauges in to go there. But anything that you cant fit in your stock location on a custom panel isnt important enough you need it in direct line of sight so those gauges can go elsewhere as opposed to being on the pillar.

can you tell i hate pillar gauges?

Kandied , I think it would look better if you had them in the console area. But since you are going with a supercharger I would put just the boost gauge up there and put the others in the console area or dash???????

To me the whole "theme" of the interior would be essential to decide on that. On a typical "race-style" interior setup I would go for the pillar mount, while for a more tricked out / customized interior I would stay away from the quick add-ons and go for a sleek look. If you are already making a custom console - I'd definitely say go that route.

Just my $.02

Pillar mounted guages are a little distracting esp at nite, imo
If I were building the 3rd gen to end all 3rd gens, I would go all HUD.

very true however my heads up display can only have 4 guages programmed and little things like the wide band, nitrous pressure, etc. just don't work.
