How much are these gauge faces going to run and will be you taking requests for for lettering instead of iroc? I apologize if this was listed before in posts.

are you going to cut a slit in the gauges so we can fit them over the needles? if not. how will we get them over the needles? I am definantly up for a set though. good luck with everything.

Dude, HOLY COW!! I totally forgot about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

......nah, man just kidding. It's covered.

They'll have holes for the needles. They'll be about as pliable as a photograph, so you just kinda fold 'em (without creasing of course) and you can just slide 'em over the needles. I know it sounds wierd, but don't worry, it'll work. That's been one of my biggest problems recently. I couldn't find a way to cut a CLEAN cirlce for the center holes on the speedo and tach. I have several punches that just wouldn't reach the center of the face.......

....but for those who've been following along.....

I JUST FOUND A PUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's right, it's only been 10 minutes since my previous post about me trying to cut them by hand!!!! I figured I'd do one more search under a few different key words, and sure enough, I FOUND A PUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's already ordered and everything!!! You guys don't know how excited I am about THAT!

Whew, different stroke I guess.....anyhow.

will be you taking requests for for lettering instead of iroc?
Yes, and I have several different Camaro logo/texts: Z28,1LE, RS, etc. I can also type differnt words if ya like, but I'm not gonna get into custom artwork and logos. It would take forever.

How much are these gauge faces going to run
Not sure just yet. I'm still working out the details with the bossman at work where I'm printing them. Although this isn't for sure, I'd say more than $30, less than $60. I already have my costs calculated, the rest is dependant on how much the printing costs me.

I apologize if this was listed before in posts.
No problem. It's a long thread.

Fantastic that you found the punch - That will make production closer to a reality. If you can produce the sets with like Z28 and such on them then count me in for a set.

I will send a PM on ordering and the lettering - So when you get them into production you can send my set...Thanks, Ed.

Alright guys, as of now, I have 3 people for the first "test" batch. As I mentioned. I hope to have my personal first official set done in a week or two. The good news is that I found that punch, but they said it would be about a week before i got it. That may set me back too. Anyhow, once my set is done, I should be able to get the other 3 sets done pretty quick.

The reason for the first 3 is this: Keep in mind I'm not a business. This is all done afterwork, so I want to make sure i don't get too overwhelmed until I'm confident I can handle it. By doing 3 sets first, you guys can get some feedback too. I'd hate to have 12 orders, some money in the mail, some in hand, only to find out for some reason some of the holes don't line up, or who knows what. Then not only do I have to fix the problems, but I have to deal with money. Money is always tricky. Even best buddies can have issues once money gets involved. I want to have my set perfect, and three other satisfiedTGO members before I open it up to everyone.

Sound like a plan? Bah, when did this all start? March I think? Anyhow, you can wait a little longer!!!! LOL

Seriously guys, you have no idea how cool it is to have this much interest. I want to do my best to come through big for you guys and I just need a smidge more time to be able to do it.

Thanks.

-Chris

Oh, and the first three (and this is all completely unnofficial of course) are:
ZZ4 86 Z28, CocaColaKid, and BigDave'sIroc. Guys I'll be in touch with ya and we'll go over whatcha want, etc. etc. I'll let you know all the little details. For now, let's keep the colors/numbers/words and all that in PM, not on this public thread. Heck, I don't even know what exactly to ask you guys yet! I'm trying to work up a order form of sorts.

With the weight reduction, and reduction of frontal drag that should put them in at 200mph, or close (Hurah).

So who said we were in a hurry - I would rather see you take your time, to be able to do them just right - Hey, and have a little pfunn at the same time. Besides, no matter how straight, and flat the road is, there is always a bump someplace...right?

Keep up the great work...

omg.. those are friggin killer .. ones for the t/a.. but as cocacola said .. take your time.. make em look good (not that they already do) .. a suggestion for the t/a bird ones - maybe just the bird.. could you make it so the bird would light up .. just the outline of the bird.. would light up when you do turn the lights on?

Seems like that would involve backlighting. He hasnt figured that out yet for them. Unless he used some kinda wierd reflection machanism. Sad to say that would add weight though

I have backlit material now (not in stock, but it's now available) but it's intended for large signs, not small things like this. I'm not sure how uniform the opacity is. (I think they may look all cloudy). Anyhow, once the Cammie faces are up and running, I'm gonna try and see what I can do about 'Bird faces.

....They're all backlit from 85 on, correct?

how do they look at night? Im in as of right now.
They look no different than the factory faces. No better, no worse. I have the euro blue/white bulbs which look pretty killer.

86 and newer on the birds I believe. 85 and back were lit the same as the Camaro faces. My 85 does not have the backlit guages, but an 87 I parted out did.

ok question......

the needles in my guages are some wierd yellowish off color that is pretty ugly. can i get new ones when i put in my new gauge face? do you make them? or where can i get some new ones. i think orange would look pretty cool or red with those guages...

and when are they gonna be done? i really want some!!

Excuse me for butting in here, but BlueZee28 do not take off your needles. There's a great chance you will never get them back on correctly - Expert area only. Get special markers and paint them gently to look new. I am an expert at taking off needles and not having them work accurately afterwards. I think I'm correct here in this, or is just my pfatt fingers???
Do a search on the boards here to find the maker of special marker dyes to color the needles - some in many colors - especially bright red again.

considering i'm a spaz i prolly wouldn't be able to get them off and on without biffing the whole thing....never would be the same again....

i got some paint i could use....i really want those gauges though!!! lol

The markers work. The needles in the pics (from the beginning of this thread) used to be bright orange when i had the white faces. When I decided to go back to the black faces, I used paint thinner and cleaned them back to white. IIRC, the 90-92 needles are different. Not sure how they'd react to thinner if ya ever decided to go back OEM.

....I have every intention of making those faces for your year. First step is to make the first official set for myself with all the new little techniques and tools I've bought. Then is the first three sets for members. Once those guys and I feel they're OK, it'll be open to all 85-89 Camaro guys. I figure it'll be a qucik rush over the first few weeks, then it'll die down pretty much. That's when I plan to buy a 90-92 cluster and a few bird clusters. ...but to be honest, I'm not sure how that will all pan out. It's the "plan", but who knows. Not saying it won't happen, but I just can't promise yet what will and what won't happen, ya know?

*UPDATE*

Got the punch today! Seems to work just fine. The matte material got all used up for real "work" this week and the new roll has been back-ordered. I can purchase from other vendors, but at a higher cost. That means no other vendor, and that may cost me a little time. Can't see it being more than a week though.

Abubaca do you need a Bird cluster to design some overlays? I have one sitting here collecting dust. It's a 140mph speedo with an 8K tach from an RS. Let me know if you could use it.

...Not sure how to change screen names, but with only 3 posts, ya might just start over. Post in the FAQ section. They can probably tell you better what to do.

Unofficially, the price looks like it'll be about $45 per set. I wanted to go a little lower, but materials are gonna cost a little more, so, well.....you know....poop flows down hill to the consumer! LOL

.....but I hope the have the first few sets printed this week.

$45.00 is a great price - if extras are extra well so be it. Thanks, Ed.

Plans? Yes. ....but at the moment, I think the 85-89 Cammie faces are gonna keep me busy enough.

We'll see what happens.

OK, the first sets are ready for print. I'll probably have 'em printed tomorrow, and I'll be into production by the weekend!

Looks great! Congrats for working out all the issues.

I have $45 burning a hole in my pocket...and I'm an 89 IROC guy so your set will work just fine for me (cept 6500redline).

Let me know if/when I can get on the list

thanks
Rob
