Spoiler problem... help me decide what to do!
I have an firebird parts car and an 86 Trans Am as a my driver. I'm not sure which hatch and spoiler I want to keep.
The 86 has the third brake light on top which I hate, it won't work with my louver, and the wrap around wing (made of rubber) has alot of pits and damage to it so it'll be difficult to make look good. It also has 1 piece of 50% tint on it which I'm not really a fan of, but the no defroster look is nice.
Now the 89 has the lower brake light which I like, will fit my louver, and has a different spoiler which I like but I'm not crazy about. Here's a picture of it on another car.
Anyway, is a third brake light necessary? If so, would my car look funny with a V6 spoiler on a TA? I'm thinking about making a custom 70s spoiler but thats gonna be alot of work and once again, the third brake light is in the way. Any ideas or tips?

no, you dont need to have 3 brake lights, and if you dont like somehting, dont use it, its pretty much as easy as that, and the v6 spoiler on a t/a would set yours apart from others. Do whaever you want

The "V6 spoiler" was available on some TAs, so don't let that stop you, but you might want to consider one of the repro spoilers (Aerowing like you had, 4th gen style, etc). Not sure if you have a state vehicle inspection, but if you do there could be a problem with removing the third brake light.

in ct, cars from 87 and newer must have the 3rd brake light. but they did do away with inspection, so i don't know if it would really matter. i suppose a cop could be a pecker about it though.

If I don't need a 3rd brake light I'll get a 2nd gen spoiler. I like the wrap around wing I think, so I may just try to repair mine. I can't seem to find any info on third brake lights though.

Jumping on this thread, may I ask if the flat spoiler with and without the third brake light were physically the same?
